Merry Christmas.... And an unusual Christmas it was. Our first Christmas without Megan.... well, our first 25th of December without Megan. However, in typical Vogt fashion we recreated our Christmas on the 19th. And it was so real it got us all messed up for the rest of the week!! We all thought it should be over and the sales should begin!!! We loved it though and Mom (Nana) was even here to join us... We recreated it right down to Megwin spending the night on Christmas Eve (18th) and eating streusel coffee cake in the a.m. Merlyn is on a cooking spree and boy he really out did himself that day. We had prime rib, potatoes augratin and green beans almondine. Luscious beyond words!! And to top it off... he cooked the rest of the week!!! The Bonners left bright and early on Monday after for Sulphur Springs to celebrate with Edwin's family for 7 days. They'll have a warm and sunny blast!!
For the 24th we went to Christmas Eve service at Berean... fabulous!!! We often haven't gone over the years (like never) because we usually celebrate with the Holt side of the family. However, with kids all over the place and married and going hither and tow, we've disbanded or moved it to a undetermined time or place....(different story). So all that to say we got to attend Christmas Eve service and it was truly magical. After we toured the city of Lincoln with snow coming down looking at Christmas lights Obama style (hardly any..)! We returned to hot piping 13 bean soup simmering in the crock pot and cornbread... well, cornbread made by a "mix" which turned out to be like cornbread "flatbread" style! But, surprisingly, it was still yummy. (especially when you're not cookin'!!)
The storm set in and I was worried because we were all set to work at The Cat House in the morning (see previous blog).... but it all worked out. We were practically the only ones on the street but we made it!! We came home, relaxed, watched Christmas movies and was once again delighted with Mer's culinary brilliance and feasted on fabulous and I mean FABULOUS Indian Lamb Curry and Cilantro and Avocado Salad.
And that my friends is the the tale of two Christmases..... Love, B
